My research focuses on understanding causal relationships between economic and political inequalities, institutions, and economic development. I believe that understanding "why it works" rather than "what works" contributes to guiding policy to overcome obstacles to development. My methodological approach uses quantitative and qualitative techniques to study causal relationships among variables and provide inputs that can help policymakers design or improve existing public policies.

I am currently working on the effect of economic and political inequalities on armed conflict and peacebuilding; the role of education in reducing crime; and the socioeconomic determinants of children's well-being.
